If your car hits someone’s door in a parking lot, don’t expect the police to come.
“There’s no way we’re going to get involved,” said Cpl. Mike Halskov, British Columbia RCMP traffic services spokesman. “We will not consider this because it does not meet the damage threshold.”
In B.C., police consider an accident if someone is injured or killed, the driver is disabled, there is a hit-and-run, or the combined damage to both vehicles exceeds $10,000.

Opening your door for another car — or accidentally pushing a shopping cart into it — usually doesn’t fall into those categories as long as the caller shares their name, contact information and driver’s license number, Halskov said.
