Paramount Network’s original series Yellowstone returned and it looks as though a major war could be on the horizon. After weeks of trying to find out who was responsible for the attempted murder of the Dutton family, it was revealed the hit-man could’ve been closer to home, leaving viewers in complete shock.

Yellowstone’s season three finale saw the Dutton family come under fire when three members were faced with an attempt on their lives.

Patriarch John Dutton (played by Kevin Costner) was shot and left for dead at a roadside after helping a woman whose car had broken down.

His daughter Beth Dutton’s (Kelly Reilly) office went up in flames after a mysterious parcel containing an explosive lit up the building.

While, John’s son, Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) was ambushed by gunmen and in the most recent episode the family could soon find out who ordered the hit, much to fans’ surprise.

Taking to Twitter, viewers shared their shock at the jaw-dropping plot twist, this included AKgal01 who wrote: “This scene will change everything.”

Initially, many viewers were convinced Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley) was involved, this came after the revelation he was in fact adopted, which spurred him to search for his biological family.

He met up with his troubled birth father Garrett Randall (Will Paton) who tried to convince him to “kill the king” and gain power over his adoptive father and ranch owner.

The most recent episode titled ‘Winning or Learning’ may have just debunked the Jamie rumours and instead identified Garrett as the hitman.

BrokenMoore069 tweeted in shock: “Oh holy SHIZZZ okay so maybe Jaime didn’t have anything to do with it.”

EvaBouchard2016 pleaded: “Omg omg, can’t stop watching it. God, please keep this show on for the next few years.”

Although Jamie had previously made it aware he felt like a black sheep, Kayce reassured his brother and asked him to lead the investigation on the hit.

While Jamie was shocked at the request, Kayce told him it was in fact John who requested for him to become involved.

While the people who carried out the hit had already felt the wrath of the Dutton’s revenge and were dead, the family were keen on finding the one who ordered the hit.

John had already figured out the middleman and identified him as Riggins, however, the two had never met and he was still in prison serving 20 years, so it had to be someone else.

Elsewhere, Jamie was re-building his relationship with his birth father as he had just purchased a ranch so he could have permanent residence.

However, when Jamie received the report back from Montana prison to find out more about Riggs, it was revealed Garrett was his cellmate.

Jamie was in complete shock as it meant only his father could’ve ordered the hit on his adoptive family.

While Garrett and Riggins were locked up together, he ordered for the Duttons to be murdered so Jamie could inherit everything including the ranch.

Which would ultimately set him up nicely once he was released from prison, this was a big deal because this meant John would want Garrett dead.

As Debigroves61 tweeted: “See how it plays out one wonders, who will Jamie show loyalty to?”

Yellowstone continues on Sundays on The Paramount Network.
