Westlife star quits band tour and needs emergency surgery in hospital | The Sun

WESTLIFE singer Mark Feehily has pulled out of the group's summer tour.

The vocalist, 42, needs to undergo urgent surgery this week and will miss gigs in Denmark, Sweden, Mexico, Wales and England as he recovers.

Band members Shane Filan, Nicky Byrne and Kian Egan will continue as a trio in his absence.

Mark said in a statement: "There is nothing to worry about I promise.

"But under doctor’s orders this surgery needs to happen sooner rather than later and will also require some recovery time throughout the summer.

“I want you to know that I was very excited to see you all and perform but this is something that can’t be avoided and I know that you will all still have the time of your lives at what will be some amazing shows!"

The group has been touring its Wild Dreams album around the world for most of the past year.

Speaking ahead of the record's release, Nicky said it was the result of a very fruitful writing process.

He told The Sun: "If the truth be known we probably have enough material for two or three albums, but we were very tough on ourselves to decide what went on this album."

The album features tracks Always With Me, about band member Shane’s parents passing away within six months of each other, Alive, which is about the world opening up again after lockdown, and the euphoric lead single Starlight.

"This album is one we’re very proud of, particularly for the creativity," added Nicky.
