Ever since Lizzie (played by Sarah Dugdale) arrived in Virgin River, her aunt Connie (Nicola Cavendish) has taken her job as her carer very seriously and being the town’s resident gossip, she couldn’t help but get involved in her niece’s love life as well. Dugdale recently spoke about what is in store for her character in season three and teased that Lizzie’s conflict with Connie will reach new heights and the two enter a stubborn face off.
When Lizzie was first introduced in the second season of the Netflix show, she was a rebellious 19-year-old, who was sent away by her parents because they weren’t able to deal with her.
In Virgin River, she lives with her aunt Connie who forces the teen to work at Paige’s (Lexa Doig) bakery to learn responsibility.
But Lizzie wasn’t going to just sit down quietly and quickly takes an interest in Brady (Ben Hollingsworth).
After going for a drink and almost kiss, Brady finds out about her age and dumps her.
Hurt and wanting to prove herself, Lizzie sets her sights on Ricky (Grayson Maxwell Gurnsey) next.
Initially, her intentions are just to take advantage of his position in the town.
She invites him to a party in the hopes that he will bring alcohol since he works at Jack’s (Martin Henderson) bar.
Infatuated with Lizzie, Ricky steals a bottle of tequila but later gets in trouble for that.
Lizzie continues to exploit Ricky and has him doing reckless things, like driving her to the shopping centre even though he is not allowed to leave the town with his grandmother Lydie’s (Christina Jastrzembska) car.
When he initially refuses, she emotionally blackmails him in order to convince him.
But after spending time together, Lizzie’s barriers break down and the two actually start a romantic relationship.
The two youngsters even sleep with each other for the first time.
But when Connie catches them, she bans Lizzie from seeing Ricky again.

The religious aunt even went as far as confronting Ricky’s grandmother for the “degenerate” she accused him of.
Lydie though stood her ground and supported the two teens’ decision to have sex and commended them for their effort in being safe.
In a recent interview with TVLine, Dugdale revealed the conflict between the two is not over yet.
“It’s not a love triangle, but there’s definitely a triangle with Lizzie, Ricky and Aunt Connie,” she explained.
“Connie is such a part of their relationship, not by Lizzie’s choice.”
The actress hopes in season three she will be able to explore Connie’s presence in Lizzie’s relationship with Ricky, even when she isn’t there.
Dugdale however doesn’t hold any personal grudges towards the character of Connie, who she described as one of her favourites.
“I love how different she and Lizzie are generationally, but they’re both so stubborn and strong-willed. You can tell they’re family,” she said.
Virgin River seasons 1-2 are available to stream on Netflix now.
