The Walking Dead finally unmasks The Whisperers’ Beta as a celebrity – leaving Alpha reeling – The Sun

THE Walking Dead’s latest set of flashbacks finally unmasked one of the most mysterious of the show’s villains, The Whisperers.

The second episode of the tenth season, We Are the End of the World, gave viewers new insights into the origins of Alpha and Beta, the leaders of the mask-wearing faction.

It turns out the pair, known for their brutality and ability to blend in with the undead by wearing their skin, met long before establishing The Whisperers.

Rewinding seven years, the look back focused on Alpha navigating the apocalypse with her young daughter Lydia in tow.

After seeking refuge in an abandoned building, the pair crossed paths with Beta, who wore a balaclava to protect his identity.

While he was initially cautious, the lumbering fella was eventually persuaded to join the mother and daughter duo.

He even let Alpha get a look at his face, and her reaction spoke volumes, at least for those familiar with the comics.

After lifting up his mask, Alpha sported a smirk and nodded her head, before lowering it again.

In Robert Kirkman’s graphic novels, Beta is eventually unmasked as a prominent basketball player with celebrity status.

It looks like the TV series will be following suite and Alpha recognised him, with the uncharacteristic grin representing a rare moment of being star struck.

The flashback comes after Beta actor Ryan Hurst revealed he was hospitalised during filming as his stuffy mask and costume gave him heatstroke.

When asked if it was a struggle to keep cool, he replied: “Oh my God.

“I landed in the hospital once this year from heat exhaustion.

“I’m in a leather trench coat and two layers under that in Georgia in the summer,” he continued to Entertainment Weekly.

“It’s no joke, man.”

Fortunately the star made a full recovery and was able to return to filming after cooling off and re-hydrating.

The Walking Dead airs Mondays on FOX at 9pm.
