The Real Housewives family is about to get a whole lot bigger with news of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. Andy Cohen confirmed the new location for the expansion of the franchise during BravoCon in New York City. News of the series was received with mixed reactions from fans who made their opinions heard on Twitter.
“We’ve always tried to choose cities that have completely unique personalities. And we also tried to throw a little curveball now and then, pick somewhere that you maybe weren’t expecting,” the Watch What Happens Live said. “We are very excited to travel to Salt Lake City, Utah, for the Real Housewives of SLC!”
Cohen acknowledges that none of the fans saw Salt Lake City as a setting for The Real Housewives, but he gave reasons why it’s a location that could turn out very interesting.
“You didn’t see it coming but I have to tell you, in Utah, you have the majesty of the mountains, the Mormon religion, an exclusive community of people who have very successful businesses who live in their own universe,” Cohen added. “It is gorgeous and I think you’re going to be really surprised and intrigued by the group of women we’ve found.”
Fans Reactions are hilarious
Reactions to the new city in The Real Housewives franchise was all over the place. Some people questioned why Bravo executives picked locations, others were excited about a new show, while others feel they have “jumped the shark.”
“What could be better than Mormon drama?” a loyal fan tweeted.
“Just in time for the Sundance Film Festival in Park City,” an excited fan wrote. “[It] should be interesting to watch the ladies in their cowboy hats and ski boots.”
“It’s not just Mormons here,” a person from Salt Lake City defended the franchise. “We have a really strong LGBTQ community and lots of different types of people.”
Not all Bravo fans were excited about the new franchise and they were not afraid to throw some shade at the network.
“Yeah, I won’t be watching that one either,” an upset fan wrote. “You should have chosen someplace like New Orleans, add some class to these shows. I would say South Carolina but we already have the wonderful, ahem, Southern Charm.”
“I’m bored already,” another follower said.
“I’m over all of The Real Housewives,” another upset viewer tweeted. “I watched all of them from day one but after manipulation from the RHOBH Mean Girls against Lisa Vandeprump, I’m done with all of them. [The] franchise has jumped the shark.”
Bravo makes it official
For those that thought it was a joke from BravoCon, the network released a statement where they confirm the addition of RHOSL.
“The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City takes viewers into an undiscovered world that is about so much more than religion, although the Mormon church is undeniably ingrained in the culture,” the network said in a statement. “In the majestic mountains of Utah is a hidden social circle made up of successful women who have created their own paradise filled with luxury homes, shopping sprees and multi-million-dollar businesses and brands.”
Salt Lake City joins established franchises set in Orange County, New York City, Atlanta, New Jersey, Beverly Hills, Dallas, and Potomac.
“They have mastered running wildly successful enterprises by day and enjoy après ski at the finest resorts by night, all the while raising extraordinary and unconventional families. Here perfection is not an aspiration, it’s a mandate,” the statement added.
As of now, there are no announcements of cast or premiere date.
