Fans of The Good Fight were left devastated when star Delroy Lindo announced he would be leaving his role as Adrian Boseman ahead of the season five premiere. Viewers got their first look at what life at the firm is like without their former boss after the first trailer for the fifth season was released only a few days ago.

The Good Fight is a spin-off series to The Good Wife, which follows Chrtisine Branski’s beloved lawyer Diane Lockhart as she joins another law firm in Chicago.

Fans of the series were dealt a tough blow recently as actors Delroy Lindo and Cush Jumbo announced they were leaving the series.

Their two respective characters, Adrian Boseman and Lucca Quinn were incredibly popular with fans so it will be interesting to see how the show moves forward without the two major characters.

However, creators and showrunners Robert and Michelle King, and actors Baranski and Audra McDonald discuss the upcoming season with Deadline.

McDonald, who plays name partner Liz Reddick, confirmed that Adrian’s exit will dramatically impact the law firm.

“Liz is having to step into even more of a leadership position.

“As the top Black lawyer at this firm, she has to step into this thorny issue.”

She went on to explain that it’s a “different dance” for Liz, as well as for Diane.

The Liz actress added that the series will further explore the “complicated but deep friendship” that Liz has with Diane.

Though, the two will reportedly land in a “tricky spot” after Adrian’s departure.

Showrunner Robert King has promised “no easy answers” regarding each of their respective character’s new storylines, or for their friendship.

Adrian’s exit will no doubt create tension in the workspace as the heads of the firm will be vying for his former position.

The Good Fight has never shied away from discussing difficult subject matters, especially ones regarding race.

Both Baranski and McDonald praised the series’ creators for their handling of such topics.

“They’re not afraid to get messy, and that’s what happens this season: It gets messy,” said McDonald.

The tragic murder of George Floyd will also play a part in the next season.

Creator Michelle King stated that they wanted to explore the effects of the last pandemic year, and its world changing events, on its characters.

She explained that she “wanted to know what it was like” for Diane and Liz.

Despite Lindo and Jumbo’s exits in season four, audiences still have plenty to look forward to.

Mandy Patinkin and Charmaine Bingwa have joined the cast for the latest season, and Patinkin, in particular, will shake things up as a new judge.

He revealed on a panel that he is still learning about his character “every minute of every day” and that fans will enjoy learning about the interesting man as well.

No matter what happens in season five, the series will surely continue to be a riveting look at a legal firm.

The Good Fight is available to watch on CBS in the US.
