Strictlys Tom will dance to Les Mis – a decade after turning down the role

Tom, who is one-fourth of the pop band McFly, will be dancing to the West End’s hit song On My Own, with his professional partner Amy Dowden – who will play Eponine.

Tom, 36, said: “I always wanted to play Marius; I actually got offered the role but I had to commit to do it for six months, and as that meant I couldn’t tour with McFly, I turned it down.”

But he said that was the year his drummer Harry Judd did Strictly and bassist Dougie Poynter did I’m A Celebrity, “so I could have done it after all!”

BBC breakfast presenter Dan Walker is hoping to impress the Strictly judges this weekend, for musicals week, when he takes on the Charleston.

Dan, 44, and his professional dance partner, Nadiya Bschkova will dance to Good Morning from Singin’ In The Rain.

Dan ended up near the bottom of the leaderboard in last Saturday’s show, However, Dan and Nadiya did avoid the dance-off and Dragons’ Den star Sara Davies was sent home.

He later remarked he did not know “who is voting for us”.
