Strictly's Nicola Adams set to introduce dance partner Katya Jones to her girlfriend

OLYMPIC boxing champion Nicola Adams is planning to introduce her dance partner Katya Jones to her girlfriend ahead of rehearsals.

The sports star, 37, wants model and beauty blogger Ella Baig, 22, to feel comfortable about the pro partnership — the show’s first same-sex pair.

Stars and their partners start practising next week and Ella has moved from Leeds to London in a show of support for Nicola.

A source said: “Nicola wants Ella to be as happy as possible so a cosy meeting with Katya will smooth out any awkwardness. Nicola is confident in the relationship.”

It comes two years after 31-year-old Katya, then married to Neil Jones, was caught kissing her celebrity partner comic Seann Walsh, 34.

But Nicola said: “Ella’s bubbling with me. Our family and friends have been taking the mickey about the ‘curse’ but she’s fine.

“She knows I love her and she completes me. Anybody else just doesn’t come close.”

The boxer has also said she and Ella, whom she met in a club two years ago, plan to marry and start a family.

Asked who would have their first child she told The Daily Mail: “Ella. I don’t fancy going through all the hormone changes and everything. Anyway she’s more nurturing than I am.”

Nicola also told how she plucked up the courage to tell her mum she was gay.

She said: “I told her in the kitchen. She just said ‘Don’t worry about it. Put the kettle on.’

"It felt like a weight had just been lifted off me.”

Meanwhile, Russian Katya has promised a special pairing.

She said: “Nicola is a legendary girl and inspired a lot of young women. I will have an unforgettable experience. It’s very interesting.”

Talking of her excitement about the choreography, Katya, who won in 2017 with actor Joe McFadden, 45, added on an Instagram Live session: “I don’t sleep at night coming up with moves, thinking of exercises for a partner.

“I am rewatching our videos, thinking which words are better to use to explain.

“I don’t want to sleep because I want to share. I want to see the progress. It motivates me a lot more.”
