On Wednesday’s instalment of Steph’s Packed Lunch, Channel 4 host Steph McGovern spoke to current Strictly Come Dancing duo Johannes Radebe and Ellie Taylor. While the couple touched on their experience in the competition so far, John Whaite, his former partner joined Steph in the studio. During the discussion, the Strictly professional had nothing but praise for John.

Last week, Strictly Come Dancing star Johannes and his celebrity partner John Whaite attended the Virgin Atlantic Attitude Awards.

The dancing duo, who made history by becoming the BBC show’s first all-male pair last series, were given the Gamechanger Award by Steps singer Ian ‘H’ Watkins.

Johannes and John’s partnership on the show was highly praised by the nation and they wowed judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Shirley Ballas and Anton Du Beke right until the very end.

Although they danced their way into the final, they sadly lost the Glitterball to EastEnders star Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice.

The Strictly star appeared on Steph’s Packed Lunch show via video link with his current celebrity partner Ellie to touch on the award he won with John last week.

He said: “That award is called the game-changers and I think there’s no better name fitting for what John and I accomplished last year.

“My babe, once again I just want to say how proud I am because let’s be honest, he made that Strictly for me, he really did.

“I absolutely loved every minute of it so the fact that we’ve gone to leave this world a better place, it really humbles me.

“So, thank you John and thank you to everyone who supported our journey.”

Steph jokingly told Johannes’ current partner Ellie she had no pressure this year following his kind words to John.

She replied: “There’s a new person in his life now so don’t worry about that!”

John confessed that when he found out that Johannes would be dancing with Ellie this year he was relieved as they’ve worked together in the past.

Currently, Johannes and Ellie are eighth on the leaderboard with a score of 30 after their Viennese Waltz routine in week four.

Although the dancing duo are sitting in the middle in the ranking of the remaining stars, wildlife cameraman Hamza Yassin is storming ahead.

Last Saturday the 32-year-old and Jowita Przystal secured the highest score of the competition so far with their Salsa routine.

Impressing the four judges, they were given a total of 39, one point away from the maximum score.

Not far behind is singer Fleur East and Vito Coppola who are in second place on the leaderboard with a total of 38.

However, on the other end of the scale actor Will Mellor is currently in last place with 23 after Matt Goss was sent home last weekend.

The former Bros singer failed to impress the judges in the dance-off against Kym Marsh and was the latest celebrity to leave the competition.

He joins Loose Women star Kaye Adams and Radio DJ Richie Anderson who has also been booted off the show.
