Before Gemma Atkinson joined the cast of Emmerdale as Carly Hope, she played Lisa Hunter in Hollyoaks.
Gemma was cast as Lisa when she was just 16 years old and played her in the Chester-based soap for four years. After she left in 2005 there were rumours she’d return. However, Gemma turned down an offer from the soap, explaining to the Daily Star that she didn’t want to become “stuck in a rut.”
Ten years later, she appeared in Emmerdale as Carly Hope. Gemma was in the soap for two years before leaving in 2017 for her stint on Strictly Come Dancing.
We all know him as Grant Mitchell from EastEnders. However, before joining the London-based soap, Ross Kemp played a minor role on the opposite side of the country in Emmerdale.
Ross starred as the minor character Graham Lodsworth – the illegitimate son of Dolly Skilbeck – in 1986 and 1987.
After leaving the Dales, he went on to land his best-known role as EastEnders hardman Grant. He joined the cast in 1990 and enjoyed a nine year stint on the soap opera. He later returned in 2005 for a year and then again in 2015.
Before playing Diane Hutchinson in Hollyoaks, Alex Fletcher found fame in Brookside as Jaqui Dixon.
She joined the Liverpool-based soap back in 1990 aged just 12 and played Jaqui until Brookside ended in 2003. In fact, Alex ended up marrying Neil Davies – one of her character’s on screen boyfriends – in 2003.
After Brookside, Alex took a break from acting and trained as a fitness instructor. It wasn’t until 2010 that she joined Hollyoaks as Diane.
Just like Katie, Nikki Sanderson started out in Coronation Street and switched to Hollyoaks. She played Candice Stowe in the ITV soap between 1999 and 2005.
Nikki decided to leave the soap and pursue new projects. It wasn’t until 2012 that she returned to soapland to star in Hollyoaks as Maxine Minniver.
Nikki has been a series regular since she started and next November will mark her ten-year anniversary on the show.
46 year old Gaynor Faye ’s mum – Kay Mellor – may have been a scriptwriter for Brookside, but this star carved her own path in the wonderful world of soaps.
We all know her best as Emmerdale’s Megan Macey, but Gaynor actually got her start in Coronation Street. She played a character called Judy Mallett who arrived on the cobbles in 1995 and was killed off in 1999.
Lucy-Jo Hudson has recently returned to her role as Donna-Marie Quinn in Hollyoaks after her initial departure in 2019.
However, before Lucy landed her current role back in 2018, she was a fan favourite on Coronation Street. Lucy played Katy Harris from 2002 to 2005 when she was killed off in a tragic suicide storyline.
Lucy was actually married to her Corrie co star, Alan Halsall (Turone Dobbs). The pair divorced in 2018, but have a seven year old daughter together.
