For six seasons, fans tuned into the Starz series Power to follow the criminal exploits of Omar Hardwick’s James ‘Ghost’ St Patrick. As his family life crumbled around him, the stakes grew exponentially and the series became more action-packed as a result. However, a recent hint from producer and star 50 Cent about the show’s spin-off Raising Kanan has sent fans into meltdown.
Power fans were left reeling after the death of James St Patrick in the Starz series’ sixth season.
However, they can be thankful that three new spin-offs have been announced, with Raising Kanan finally getting a trailer and a release date.
50 Cent portrayed Kanan Stark in Power, the friend-turned-dangerous rival of Ghost.
The rapper isn’t set to reprise his role in Raising Kanan as the prequel series will follow his younger years as he rises through the criminal ranks.
Producer and star 50 Cent took to Instagram to make the latest announcements about the series, which has left fans extremely excited for the new show.
After releasing the latest trailer on his Instagram, 50 Cent captioned the video with: “THIS IS GONNA F**K YOUR HEAD UP! RAISING KANAN 7/18 it’s [fire emoji].
“Green Light GANG. The best sh*t on TV.”
The trailer reveals the new cast members for the first time, including Malcolm M. Mays, House’s Omar Epps, Hailey Kilgore, Patina Miller, Shanley Caswell, Natalee Linez, and Ade Chike Torbert.
Mekai Curtis will portray a young Kanan Stark in the latest outing.
In another Instagram post, 50 Cent revealed a new character poster of Patina Miller.
He captained the photo, writing: “@patinamiller is out of here, when you see her work in Raising Kanan [face palm emoji] she will be your new favorite.
“Green Light Gang #bransoncognac #lecheminduroi.”
Fans were ecstatic at the latest announcements and couldn’t help but express their joy at the latest trailer.
“Ohh it’s on let’s go!!!!!!!!” one fan wrote.
However, the wait between each Power Book series appears to be too much for some, with another writing: “I’m just tired of the wait.”
Though, another replied: “I can’t wait. Just finished power book 2, that was the bomb too… Great job 50.”
Fans on Twitter were a lot more enthusiastic, with some commenting that they cannot wait for Kanan’s origin story to explain how he entered the criminal life.
“Cannot wait to see what made him so crazy,” one Twitter user said.
The second spin-off, titled Power Book II: Ghost, follows the traumatic events of Power’s season six finale, which saw Ghost shot by his son Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr).
Ghost then died in the arms of his best friend Tommy (Joseph Sikora).
Power Book II: Ghost has already aired and follows Tariq in college as he tries to navigate his father’s world and desperately attempts to set his mother Tasha (Naturi Naughton) free from prison.
A second season is already on the way for Power Book II, as well as another spin-off series, Book IV: Force.
No matter what happens in Raising Kanan, there’s no doubt that learning the true origin story of Kanan as a young criminal will be extremely interesting.
All seasons of Power are currently available on Netflix.
