It’s been a tough couple of months for both Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) and Pete Barton (Anthony Quinlan) in Emmerdale, but you’d think that — with wedding bells in their future — things would finally start looking up for the pair. However, this isn’t the case, as the couple soon realise the magnitude of the commitment they’re about to make to one another, which leads to plenty of conflict for them both.
With news of Rhona and Pete’s engagement continuing to spread throughout the village, Brenda (Lesley Dunlop) and Pearl (Meg Johnson) suggest that Vanessa (Michelle Hardwick) should throw a surprise engagement party for the happy couple.
Meanwhile, Rhona is beginning to have doubts about her engagement and although she feigns happiness and excitement when discussing her impending nuptials with Manpreet (Rebecca Sarker), she eventually falters, and it becomes apparent that she’s worried about the enormity of the commitment that she’s set to make.
However, her doubts on the matter may be a bit premature, as Pete romantically proposes to her once more — and he does so properly this time — which results in Rhona leading him upstairs to the bedroom for the first time since the accident.
Unfortunately, there are doubts aplenty for Pete too, as — in spite of the spark being back in his relationship with Rhona — he’s concerned once more at the thought of never having a family of his own — something which Leyla (Roxy Shahidi) picks up on when she has a conversation with him in the shop.
Later, Rhona and Pete put on brave faces as they celebrate their engagement in the pub — but the awkwardness between them is more evident than ever.
Will these worries and fears spell the end of their engagement? Or will they be honest with one another in a bid to save their relationship?
