Jessica Reynolds has taken to Instagram to say her goodbyes as the sixth season of Outlander starts to wrap up filming in Scotland. Her recent post seems to confirm her character Malva Christie’s tragic fate in the next instalment of the popular Starz series.

Outlander newcomer Jessica Reynolds has confirmed she won’t be reprising her role as Malva Christie in the seventh season of the historical drama.

Reynolds will join the supporting cast next year, alongside Mark Lewis Jones and Alexander Vlahos as Thomas and Allan Christie.

Major spoilers lie ahead, as the upcoming episodes will take inspiration from Diana Gabaldon’s already published sixth book in the series, A Breath of Snow and Ash.

In her recent Instagram post, Reynolds confirmed: “And we’re wrapped!!!”

Filming for the upcoming season began in February 2021 following last year’s coronavirus delays, and came to an end at the start of June.

Post-production will continue for some months, as the series is planning on a return in early 2022.

The newcomer then added: “I’ll miss you my Malva, your wee troubled soul.”

The emerging young actress has therefore confirmed she’ll only be sticking around for one season of Outlander.

Several fans of the original books took to Reynolds’ comments in anticipation of her interpretation of the popular character.

One Instagram user said: “Can’t wait to see how you bring Malva to the screen! Such a complex character!”

Another commented: “I cannot WAIT to finally see my girl Malva on my screen.”

Fans received some disappointing news earlier this year, as Starz confirmed season six would only consist of seven episodes.

Thankfully, a seventh outing is already in the works, and will feature an extended run of 16 episodes.

However, those who have already read Gabaldon’s epic series of novels will know that Malva may not be sticking around for all seven instalments of the new season.

During A Breath of Snow and Ashes, Malva becomes pregnant and accuses Jamie Fraser (played by Sam Heughan) of being the father.

She is later found murdered, and Jamie’s wife Claire Fraser (Caitríona Balfe) is accused of being a jealous killer.

While Fraser’s Ridge is still defending itself against the American Revolution, the community will also face a horrific ordeal within its own walls.

Although previous seasons have diverged from the source material, season six looks to be sticking close to the events of Gabaldon’s sixth book in the series.

One more commenter replied: “Heartbreaking story, I know it will be well told!!!”

Malva may not be seen around Fraser’s Ridge for much longer than a few episodes, but viewers are still eager to see what Jessica Reynolds brings to the role.

Outlander season 6 will premiere in early 2022 on Starz. Seasons 1-5 are available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
