NCIS season 19 will see a whole range of characters returning to the action, including Leroy Gibbs (played by Mark Harmon), Timothy McGee (Sean Murray) and Ducky Mallard (David McCallum). However, the CBS drama is undergoing a huge change as the time it airs on CBS in the USA has been altered after 19 years. Due to adjustments to the TV schedule, the first episode will be released at a new time but when will this be?

When will NCIS season 19, episode one be released?

According to viewing figures, more than 12 million fans tuned in to watch the last season of the programme which saw Gibbs almost killed off in a boat explosion.

Therefore, fans are eager to know when they get another dose of the police-crime drama and they won’t have long to wait.

In a change to the show’s usual timeslot, it is now moving to Monday nights, starting September 20, 2021, and will air at 9pm Eastern Time on CBS.

This has been done so viewers can watch the new spin-off show, NCIS: Hawaii, an hour later at 10pm in what bosses will hope gives the latest edition to the franchise a fighting chance in terms of viewing figures.

The drama would usually be broadcast on Tuesday evenings, a timeslot it has held since it began in 2003, but the rest of the series will continue to air on Mondays for the foreseeable future.

CBS president, Kelly Kahl, has explained the network’s decision to move the show from its original timeslot.

The head of the network said: “We hope to improve the [Monday] time period significantly. And we hope that it can be a strong lead-in to help launch NCIS: Hawaii.

“We realise that we can’t take [the time slot change] for granted. We have to help educate people and let them know where it’s moving to,” she told TVLine.

These are the current details for when the US will be able to watch the new episodes but it’s not yet known when the rest of the world will be able to view them.

In Britain, the show used to be broadcast on FOX UK but as the network has now shut down, there is no confirmation what channel the programme will air on.

This doesn’t mean fans in the UK can’t still watch the new episodes, they will just have to do so by other means.

One possibility is Star on Disney Plus which has already picked up The Walking Dead from AMC which used to also air on FOX UK.

Amazon Prime Video is another avenue, as it currently allows members to watch the first 14 seasons but there are no plans to air the current episodes as of yet.

What will happen in NCIS season 19, episode 1?

The first episode, entitled Blood In The Water, will be action-packed, as the first trailer from the season 19 premiere suggests.

As well as confirming Gibbs is still alive, his colleagues are desperate to find him after discovering blood in the water where the boat exploded.

A synopsis for the instalment reads: “As the NCIS team searches for Gibbs after wreckage from his boat is discovered, they find out he was tracking a serial killer with journalist Marcie Warren (Pam Dawber), who wrote an exposé on him.”

No time will have passed at all between the seasons as showrunner Steven D. Binder revealed the story picks up straight off the back of where it ended last year.

Taking to Twitter, fans are eager to see the new episodes air, with one writing: “Wow, just had to move us closer to the edge of our seats.”

Another posted: “We need NCIS LA on Monday night also so we can have NCIS Monday just like there’s FBI Tuesdays.”

Whilst a third remarked: “Can’t wait to see the season premiere. Not happy about Monday night, especially with Monday Night Football. Should have left well enough alone. Put a new show on Monday instead.”

“Changing the night after all these years never turns out well. Why mess with the original when about to bring on a new spinoff?” a fourth added.

NCIS season 19 will premiere on Monday, September 20 on CBS in the USA. A UK release date is yet to be announced.
