Mirzapur: What happened to Shabnam’s dad Lala?

Mirzapur: Amazon Prime release season two trailer

Season two of Mirzapur saw the plot thicken with Guddu Pandit (played by Ali Fazal) biding his time and carefully planning his revenge against the Tripathis. Guddu was lying low in the aftermath of series one with Kaleen Bhaiya (Pankaj Tripathi) and Munna (Divyenndu) trying to find him and Golu Gupta (Shweta Sharma Tripathi). Despite their best efforts, Guddu gained the upper hand after striking a deal with Beena Tripathi, which ensured he would come out on top.

What happened to Shabnam’s dad Lala in Mirzapur?

WARNING: This article contains major spoilers from Mirzapur seasons 1 and 2

During his time underground, Guddu worked with opium dealer Lala (Anil George) whose daughter’s wedding was turned into a blood bath in the season one finale.

Lala wanted revenge against the Tripathis as well for causing his family so much distress and with the help of Guddu managed to get it.

Guddu and Lala struck a deal to distribute opium with Kaleen Bhaiya cut out of the equation, leading his son Munna to attempt to threaten the drug dealer.

However, Guddu saved Lala and dealt with the attacker while also resigning from the Tripathis’ employment.

Although Guddu and Lala’s partnership was flourishing, he was displeased about the young gangster getting close to his daughter Shabnam (Shernavaz Jijina).

Lala warned Guddu to stay away from Shabnam and her young daughter because of his dangerous lifestyle, which he feared would result in their deaths.

Shabnam and Guddu later had a heart to heart during which she told him they couldn’t be together because of the violence involved in his line of work.

Additionally, she told Guddu to follow his instincts and seek out revenge against those who had wrong him, telling him she wouldn’t stand in the way of his chosen path.

They seemed to break things off amicably and it didn’t come a moment too soon after Guddu’s father Ramakant Pandit (Rajesh Tailang) turned up with the police to arrest him.

Police officer Maurya (Amit Sial) and his men surrounded the house, with Shabnam and her child threatened, leading Lala and Guddu to go comply with the authorities.

Lala and Guddu were both frogmarched into separate vehicles and taken away by the police but after this the opium dealer didn’t really feature in the rest of the series.

Mirzapur seemed to leave the character’s fate uncertain with viewers none the wiser if he’d killed or spared.

Guddu was almost murdered by Maurya but saved at the last moment by his father. Lala, on the other hand, simply seemed to be taken to the station.

Season three has been confirmed by Amazon Prime Video and is likely to address his fate. If anything, Lala could end up being putting on trial for his drug empire.

Then again, as the newly instated king of Mirzapur, Guddu is likely to help him get off any charges he may be facing.

Mirzapur fan weirrrrrd has posted their predictions for season three on Reddit, suggesting: “Guddu and Golu convince all the kabutars of Mirzapur to work for them more efficiently than ever. The opium business is also flourishing thanks to Lala.”

They go on to suggest: “Guddu impresses Lala and convinces him for Shabnam.”

The third big prediction is: “Sharad and Kaleen Bhaiya attack Lala’s mansion and kill him but they escape before Guddu’s men come in.”

Judging by these theories, Lala may well have survived and is going to be working closely with Guddu.

But like many characters in Mirzapur, his days will be numbered and it will be only so long before he is killed off as well.

Much like Guddu, Lala is also in a dangerous business where the death toll is high and the chance of getting taken out is likely.
