The sixth and final season of Lucifer is finally hitting Netflix on Friday, bringing the epic fantasy series to its highly anticipated conclusion. Before tears are shed and the world is saved yet again, co-leads Tom Ellis and Lauren German have detailed the first time they met back when the hopeful DC Comics adaptation was getting its first start on Fox.
Lucifer co-stars Tom Ellis and Lauren German have been joking about their fateful first meeting on the set of the show’s very first season.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about the Netflix hit’s final season coming this week, Ellis teased his co-star about their characters’ intense on-screen chemistry.
German sarcastically admitted ‘It was a lot of work’, prompting Ellis to up the ante.
He joked: “It was a lot of work, I mean you say effortless? Jeez.”
“I was exhausted from day one turning up trying to manufacture some kind of chemistry with Lauren.”
His screen partner laughed off the insult and added ‘Ditto’.
Ellis and German’s romantic tension has been one of the biggest talking points throughout the show, though it initially appeared the performers struggled to make it work.
Thankfully, the two co-stars were only ribbing each other, and Tom Ellis went on to recall their real first meeting.
Before their meeting, they both shared a mutual friend in fellow actor Jesse Spencer, who informed Ellis about Lauren German’s audition after he had already landed the part.
Ellis explained: “The worlds kind of collided and Lauren got the job.
“So we met up the day of the read-through just to say hello to each other and read through the script together before we got through the read-through.”
After spending time together going through the first ever script for the series, Ellis and German quickly became good friends.

The Lucifer star recalled they made each other laugh throughout the process and it was very easy for the two of them to get along.
He added: “It was pretty easy and effortless to have that chemistry.”
Both stars also share a similar raunchy sense of humour, as German explained.
She admitted to Ellis: “You class it up a notch, I kind of drop it down here.”
“We got on like a house on fire the first time, and we really never stopped laughing.”
Their shared humour certainly translates to their performances, as Lucifer and Chloe’s on-screen partnership is just as funny as it is romantic.
Sadly, Lucifer and Chloe will be gracing screens for the very last time this weekend, though hopefully the iconic duo can find another way to work together at some point in the future.
Lucifer season 6 will be released on Friday, September 10 on Netflix.
