Laurence Fishburne, Sam Elliott and Mickey Rourke Added to ‘MacGruber’ Series’ Cast

The three Hollywood stars will be joining Will Forte, Kristen Wiig and Ryan Phillippe in the eight-episode comedy series based on Forte’s recurring ‘Saturday Night Live’ parody sketch.

AceShowbizLaurence Fishburne, Sam Elliott and Mickey Rourke will join comedians Will Forte and Kristen Wiig for the upcoming spoof action series “MacGruber“.

The eight-episode comedy series, based on Forte’s recurring “Saturday Night Live” parody sketch, will also feature Ryan Phillippe. Forte will play the accident-prone title character, while Wiig will reprise her “SNL” character Vicki St. Elmo.

Rourke will portray the series villain, Brigadier Commander Enos Queeth, while Elliott has signed on to play MacGruber’s dad, and Fishburne will suit up as General Barrett Fasoose, the new husband of MacGruber’s ex-wife, St. Elmo. Phillippe is back to reprise his role as Dixon Piper.

The series will follow America’s ultimate hero and uber patriot MacGruber. Having been released from prison after rotting in it for over a decade, he goes on a mission to take down a mysterious villain from his past, Brigadier Commander Enos Queeth. Joined by Vicki and Dixon, he must race against time to defeat the forces of evil, only to find that evil may be lurking within.

John Solomon and Jorma Taccone will both serve as directors as well as executive producers. They are joined in the latter role by Lorne Michaels, John Goldwyn, Andrew Singer and Erin David.

A big screen version of “MacGruber” also starring Forte, Wiig and Phillipe was released in 2010.

On Wednesday, June 9, Forte made an appearance on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” and read a scene from the upcoming show without giving any spoiler. “Piper, why do you think I hid that SPOILER in a f***ing SPOILER for 20 years? For gits and shiggles? No. I hid it ’cause no government on Earth should have it – not even the United States of SPOILER,” he began the monologue.

“I mean, we’re talking about a world-ender here Piper, and I don’t know about you, but I kind of like the world. I like sunsets, I like snow-capped mountains. I like kicking back with a cold Molson and watching the game. I like babies and kettle corn, monster trucks and puppy dogs, tig ol’ bitties and bunchin’ mox. I even like cancer and Type II diabetes because they remind me that life is precious. And that’s why it’s imperative that we keep this SPOILER out of SPOILER’S hands.”
