After starring in the widely praised BBC series, Killing Eve – actress Jodie Comer was forced to step down from her latest roles. She was recently replaced by Vanessa Kirby for Ridley Scott’s next big movie.

According to Deadline, Vanessa Kirby had been chosen by Ridley Scott to play Empress Josephine alongside Joaquin Phoenix.

He will portray Napoleon in the series titled ‘Kitbag,’ for the historical drama set to premiere on Apple.

Jodie Comer was originally cast, however, according to The Hollywood Reporter she was forced to drop out due to COVID-19 and scheduling changes.

The series Kitbag is Ridley Scott’s latest epic drama set to focus on French military leader Napoleon Bonaparte.

The film is also expected to showcase their love story alongside Bonaparte’s momentous rise.

While Jodie did star in Ridley Scott’s recent project, The Last Duel, Vanessa will be filling the role in this film

Jodie starred alongside Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and Adam Driver for a film about betrayal and vengeance, during the oppressive 14th century France.

Jodie announced her step back on Awards Chatter podcast: “Unfortunately, due to Covid and changes of schedule, I don’t think I can make Kitbag work right now due to a scheduling conflict.”

Deadline stated: “Kitbag will also explore Bonaparte’s origins and his swift, ruthless climb to emperor, through the lens of his addictive and often volatile relationship with the Empress.”

This will be Vanessa’s next major role after being nominated for an Oscar for her performance in Pieces of a Woman.

In the film, she played Martha, a gut-wrenching portrayal of a Boston woman struggling to endure the loss of a child,

She is a BAFTA award-winning actress and has been nominated for a number of other awards including Emmys, Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards and SAG Awards.

Vanessa is also well known for her unforgettable portrayal of Princess Margaret in the first and second series of Netflix’s The Crown.

As well as Kitbag, she will be starring alongside Anthony Hopkins, Hugh Jackman and Laura Dern in ‘The Son.’

Predicted to be a hit, it will be director Florian Zeller’s follow-up to his Oscar-winning debut feature, ‘The Father’.

It’s safe to say the actress will be keeping busy as she will also soon star opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in the survival thriller ‘Suddenly.’

As well as reprising her role as The White Widow in the seventh and eighth instalments of the Mission Impossible franchise.

While it has been confirmed Vanessa has taken on the role as Empress Josephine, Deadline also reported her reps are in the process of negotiating her deal.
