Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson) and Brendan Brady’s (Emmett J Scanlan) Hollyoaks romance had us hooked to our TVs over a decade ago, desperately hoping that they would get their happy ending.
The popular couple, however, were ultimately ripped apart, with Brendan, who had been in the show for two and a half years at this stage, making a huge sacrifice, taking the blame for the death of his dad Sheamus, despite sister Cheryl having been the one to kill him.
Brendan inevitably went to prison, with Ste left in the village to move on with his life. But despite it having been over 10 years since Brendan last graced our screens, viewers have been holding out hopes of seeing him back one day, allowing for he and Ste to get their happy ending.
Emmet J Scanlan, who played Brendan, has gone on to achieve huge success since leaving the Channel 4 soap, but the Krypton and Peaky Blinders star happened to be in Chester in March when Hollyoaks was filming for Ste and James Nightingale’s (Gregory Finnegan) upcoming wedding scenes, set to air next week.
Kieron and Emmett delighted fans by posing for a photo together, giving audiences a little taste of what it would’ve been like had Brendan and Ste managed to go the distance and spend their life together.
‘Emmett actually lives in Chester and was randomly walking past,’ actor Kieron told us of the coincidence. ‘One of our makeup artists spotted him and was like, “Your little Ste’s getting married over there” so he came to say hello.
‘There’s a scene actually where Ste’s tied to a lamppost and a passerby takes pictures of him because he finds it funny, and we were thinking wouldn’t it be amazing if we actually got Emmett to play the passerby.
‘It would work because he looks so different at the minute – he’s in another show and he’s got to shave his beard, so he looks a bit unrecognisable, really young actually.
‘It was so weird on the day because there were fans watching and crew members so when we were stood together, I think people were expecting something to happen but we just had a little catch up.’
But is a reunion for the popular couple, known to fans as Stendan, a thing that’s ever likely to happen?
‘It was amazing to see [Emmett], and obviously I’d love for a Stendan reunion to happen, but I don’t think that will be any time soon, but who knows what the future hold?,’ said Kieron, not fully ruling it out.
We can but dream.
