Hollyoaks Haiesha Mistry claims cast have been sent home after sickness on set

Hollyoaks actress Haeisha Mistry has revealed that some of the cast had to stop filming the hit soap after illness broke out on set.

The 28 year old actress, who plays Yasmine on the show, revealed that when she returned to set on Tuesday (4 January) after the Christmas break, she was later sent home as some of the cast members were ill, though it's not clear what with.

Haiesha took to her Instagram stories to share the news with her 81,000 followers.

Sporting glamorous make-up, the star of the Channel 4 show wrote: “First day back filming this morning with a 7:25am make up call."

“Hair and make up done only to be sent home cos of sickness. I’m not ill but stay safe people.”

Before, she added: "U know when you have a good make-up day tho."

A spokesperson for the show has since clarified: “Hollyoaks rescheduled a small number of scenes on Tuesday morning. No crews were sent home and we continue to film under Covid protocols.”

It’s not the first time the show has been hit by sickness in recent months. Hollyoaks had to shut down production like many other soaps and TV shows due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic last year.

Denise Welch, who played Trish Minniver on the hit show, was one of the cast members to test positive on set.

In November 2021, Denise tweeted: “Just had covid. Nothing like the bronchitis I had recently which was most ill I’ve ever been. Lost taste & smell with both. At work 10 days ago."

"Was removed from set & they had me tested. LF & PCR taken at same time. LF was negative, PCR came back positive. Go figure."

She went on to add: "By the way I'm not negating the danger of Covid in some people. I just lost my dad to pneumonia. All horrible virus. But the testing is ridiculous. And to me all proves how pointless covid passports are."

The Channel 4 soap was set to kick 2022 off with an intense new story line as the trailer saw a huge, shock explosion destroy the village.

Amongst the destruction, young Bobby Costello can be seen leaving his step-father Sylver McQueen who is trapped under rubble for dead.

The gripping clip teases a flavour of the drama that viewers can expect in the hour-long special next week that jeopardises their lives and relationships, from the fire engulfing the salon, to the lies told between families.
