GMB viewers all have same complaint as presenters ignore ITV backstage drama

  • Fans of Good Morning Britain were clearly perplexed during the latest episode as hardly any focus was given to Phillip Scofield's This Morning departure.

The long-running host left the nation stunned when he announced that he will be stepping down as a presenter on This Morning over the weekend.

But on Monday's GMB (May 22) one of the biggest news stories in entertainment was hardly mentioned, instead presenters Richard Madeley and Susanna Reid focused on Suella Braverman's speeding fine.

Seeing that things appeared to be off-brand, viewers headed straight to Twitter to find out what was going on.

One social media user wrote: "So #GMB is going to spend hours over a speeding ticket when all newspaper front pages are about Phil."

Another chimed: "#GMB need to show some backbone and stop ignoring Schofield!!"

A third said: "I see all GMB are saying about Schofield is a brief ‘Holly will continue hosting This Morning after Phillip left the show last week’. Where’s the discussion about why he’s left & the problematic rumours? You’d do it if it were anyone else."

While a fourth added: "I see #gmb is focussing on the news that doesn’t involve the 'ITV family'."

But some were hopeful that perhaps entertainment reporter Richard Arnold would shed more light on the situation, however he never did and instead turned his attentions to Eurovision and One Direction.

Jumping onto Twitter, one viewer wrote: "As the entertainment reporter, let's see if Richard Arnold mentions Schofield! If not itv presenters have been told not to talk about him, and that is diabolical."

On Saturday (May 22), Phillip -who has presented This Morning since 2002- released a statement on Instagram that he has taken the decision to leave.

He wrote: "Throughout my career in TV – including in the very difficult last few days – I have always done my best to be honourable and kind.

"I understand that ITV has decided the current situation can't go on, and I want to do what I can to protect the show that I love.

"So I have agreed to step down from This Morning with immediate effect, in the hope that the show can move forward to a bright future."

The star then went on to thank those who have supported them and ITV viewers.
