GMB fans ‘cringe’ as Susanna Reid and Alastair Campbell clash during his debut

Alastair Campbell left viewers "cringing" as he made his Good Morning Britain debut on Monday morning, entering into a heated debate with Susanna Reid on day one.

Ahead of the fiery clash, Tony Blair's former strategist warned this particular week "could be bad for his health", before going head-to-head with Susanna, 50.

Within minutes of stepping into Piers Morgan's old seat, things turned tense between the on-screen pair.

The former spokesperson turned to his co-star asking: "Can we please call the Prime Minister Mr Johnson?"

Susanna fired back, demanding to know if Alastair also referred to Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer in the same manner.

Caught off guard, Alastair stumbled before explaining that everyone should call him by his last name, pointing out that the tabloids often did the same thing.

The TV duo also clashed while discussing the Conservatives.

Fans of the programme were left "cringing" as the conversation turned tense and awkward and took to Twitter to relay their thoughts.

One online user said: "#gmb God these 2 are so cringe together."

Another added: "Alistair Campbell is usually rude self #gmb."

A third fumed: "If @susannareid100 wants to call the prime minister by his name then she can."

While others seemed to be impressed with Alastair's introduction, praising his views.

"#GMB 'Can we please call the Prime Minister Mr Johnson' fair play to Alistair Campbell, couldn't agree more," exclaimed one person.

"Loving Alastair this morning, explained another while a third laughed, "Oh Susanna didn't like that #gmb."

Good Morning Britain airs at 6am on ITV.
