By now, most Gilmore Girls fans have weighed in on the paternity of Rory Gilmore’s baby. Most of the cast has made their guesses, too. While Amy Sherman-Palladino purposefully withheld the father’s name, most people agree that Logan Huntzberger is likely Rory’s baby daddy. Still, one cast member doesn’t wish to weigh in. Ted Rooney, the actor who portrayed Morey Dell, says he found the entire storyline “creepy.”
Ted Rooney refuses to say who he thinks fathered Rory’s baby
Rooney sat down with Scott Patterson for I Am All In, Patterson’s new podcast. During the interview, they talked about all things Gilmore Girls. In each episode, Patterson quizzes his guests with rapid-fire questions related to the show. The questions are always the same, and guests are almost always happy to answer.
Rooney was more than happy to answer the basic questions. He revealed whether or not he could smell snow and chatted about his favorite love interest for Rory. Then things took a turn. Patterson asked Rooney who he thought the father of Rory’s baby was. He refused to answer.
Ted Rooney didn’t care for Rory’s ‘Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life’ storyline
Rooney refused to answer the question because he didn’t like the storyline. He said, “It creeps me out, that whole thing. I’m sorry. I’m not happy with that whole scenario. I don’t even want to comment. I don’t approve. That’s the prude in me.” Rooney didn’t go into further detail. Fans are left wondering if he had a problem with Rory being pregnant in general or if he took issue with the affair storyline.
To be fair, Rooney isn’t the only cast member who didn’t care for the way things ended. Alexis Bledel, the actor who portrayed Rory, wasn’t crazy about the end of the revival, either. In a 2017 interview with Deadline, Bledel said that she had hoped Rory’s story would have ended on a high note. She noted that she was a bit surprised by Sherman-Palladino’s decision.
So, who is the father of Rory’s child?
Sherman-Palladino purposefully left fans hanging at the end of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. While the show creator never explicitly stated who fathered Rory’s child, there are plenty of hints along the way. It would be downright shocking if anyone but Logan fathered Rory’s child.
First, the timing of her pregnancy announcement makes it clear that Logan is the most likely father. Rory revealed her pregnancy to her mother at the end of the “Fall.” Assuming she was a couple of months along, Logan would be the only person she slept with within that time frame.
Fans also assume that Rory’s road to motherhood is supposed to mirror her mother’s journey. If that is the case, the baby would likely be fathered by someone Rory had a history with. Once again, Logan was the only person she slept with who fit the bill. Perhaps most importantly, if Logan is not the father of Rory’s baby, the entire affair storyline in Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life would have been pointless. It seems unlikely that Sherman-Palladino would have included it if it didn’t drive a potential future storyline.
