After Tyra Banks handled Suni Lee’s illness on Dancing with the Stars, fans are once again fuming. Find out what the fashion mogul turned DWTS host did during the Janet Jackson Night elimination that has fans begging ABC to bring Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews back.
[SPOILER ALERT: Spoilers ahead for the double-elimination that occurred during Dancing with the Stars‘ Janet Jackson Night.]
Olivia Jade and Jimmie Allen are out of the running for the ‘DWTS’ Mirrorball
On Nov. 8, the eight remaining couples performed two Janet Jackson songs, including a dance-off round. But in the end, Olivia Jade and Val Chmerkovskiy had the lowest combined judges’ scores and viewer votes.
Then, it came down to the bottom two: Jimmie Allen and Emma Slater versus Melora Hardin and Artem Chigvintsev. The Dancing with the Stars judges voted on who to save, unanimously agreeing to let Hardin continue on, eliminating Allen from the competition.
Tyra Banks blocks Olivia Jade from the spotlight during her elimination
During DWTS Season 30’s Queen Night, Olympic gymnast Suni Lee wasn’t feeling well. After performing, Lee quickly exited the ballroom to tend to her illness. Later, Banks made what many fans perceived to be probing comments regarding Lee’s illness. “I know you’ve been struggling all day and… you’re throwing up,” Banks said to Lee. “This is live TV and you ran off!”
Lee replied gracefully, but DWTS fans criticized Banks online. Now, fans are discussing Banks again after she stepped in front of Jade, blocking her from the camera’s view during her elimination.
“Every episode feels like a dress rehearsal, I have to laugh at this point,” a fan on Reddit said. “Imagine being as terrible as Tyra at your job and still remaining employed.”
“The way #TyraBanks said ‘get off my dayum stage,’” another DWTS fan tweeted with a clip of Banks walking in front of Jade and into place. It’s likely Banks was instructed to stand in that exact spot during camera blocking. Regardless, many fans feel negatively about Banks being the host of Dancing with the Stars. Often, those fans are the ones who criticize what Banks does on the show.
‘Dancing with the Stars’ fans disappointed in the ‘popularity contest’ this season
Throughout season 30, Dancing with the Stars fans often voice their opinions about who stays and who goes. Now that the judges can choose to save a couple from the bottom two, many fans feel the show has become more of a “popularity contest” rather than a dance competition.
“Something really needs to be done to address this popularity contest, I mean, dancing competition,” a fan tweeted after Janet Jackson Night. “The bottom 3 stars this week outscored both Iman [Shumpert] & Cody [Rigsby] by 2.8 points. Going into the Semi-Finals, we have the bottom 2 moving on while the 4th and 6th best scorers are sent home.”
“Consider not using celebs with dance experience on the show!” commented another fan. “Jimmie and Olivia worked their way up from the bottom.”
Shumpert, Rigsby, Lee, Hardin, Amanda Kloots, and JoJo Siwa remain to many fans’ chagrin. Tune in next week for the Dancing with the Stars semi-finals starting Monday at 8 PM EST on ABC.
