Coronation Street star Matilda Freeman has been praised by fans after coming out as bisexual on social media.
The 16-year-old actress, who played Summer Spellman in the ITV soap from 2017 until 2020, was quizzed about her sexuality by a fan during a question and answer session on Instagram.
She replied to the question: "I am bisexual", and aded two love hearts to finish her message.
The teen soap star was unsurprisingly inundated with supportive messages from her followers and she took to her keyboard to thank her fans.
Matilda penned: "Can I just say – thank you for all the love and support I’ve received after making my sexuality aware on my socials.
"I really wasn’t expecting it and it means the absolute world, you guys are amazing. I love you all."
Matilda also discussed her decision to leave Corrie during the same Q&A with fans.
When quizzed about her reasons for departing the long-running soap, the young star revealed that she wanted to "be able to work on other shows, films and projects."
She explained on her Instagram Story: "When you work at Corrie you’re under a contract which means you can’t work on anything else while you’re there – so it was quite limiting."
Matilda featured in several major storyline during her time in Weatherfield including Todd Grimshaw's initial exit and Billy Mayhew's drug addiction.
She made her final appearance in serial drama in August 2020 in an episode which saw Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) celebrate his birthday, and cheeky Summer branded him an "old man".
The character returned to our screens in November with actress Harriet Bibby taking over the role.
Ahead of joining the cast, Harriet said: "I am so thrilled to be joining the cast of Coronation Street. My family have watched the show for years and I already feel part of the family.
"Matilda has wished me good luck, which was lovely! I’m looking forward to bringing Summer’s sass and sparkle to the screen."
Summer is currently involved in the major hate crime storyline which saw the assault of Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher) and Seb Franklin (Harry Visinoni).
The young girl has been riddled with guilt about her actions on the day in question despite leaving the scene before the horrendous unproved attack on the couple.
