Coronation Street teases new Adam Barlow romance twist with cobbles newcomer Lydia

Coronation Street has teased a potential new romance twist for Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) as mysterious newcomer Lydia makes an arrival on the cobbles.

It was revealed earlier this week that Shameless star Rebecca Ryan, whose real-life brother Jack James Ryan plays bad boy Jacob Hay, would be joining the ITV soap as Lydia, who is the PA of an Underworld client.

And it looks as though there could be a potential new love triangle between Adam, Sarah (Tina O'Brien) and Lydia in upcoming scenes on the cobbles.

According to Digital Spy, Sarah starts to worry about Adam's reputation as a ladies' man and questions him over how many women he has slept with over the years.

Adam is left unsure how to answer the question and things take a dramatic turn when Lydia turns up, revealing her own romantic past with the cobbles' heartthrob.

The scenes come about when Sarah and Lydia go for a drink after a successful meeting but it is soon evident to see that the latter has history with Adam.

Later in the week, the two meet up again with Lydia bringing her son, Finn, and when she is introduced to Adam, she reveals that they used to date while at university and quickly makes excuses to leave.

Sarah then confronts Adam, to which he admits he can't remember his past relationship with Lydia as it was years ago, leaving her unimpressed.

It comes after a Coronation Street spokesperson told Metro of the storyline: "After the dramatic events of 2021 you would think the residents of Britain’s favourite street would be looking for a quieter start to 2022, but although the storm clouds gathering this time are metaphorical, there may be just as much damage.

"Sarah and Adam are hoping to cement their relationship by starting a family, but when Sarah’s new friend Lydia turns out to be someone from Adam’s past, could all Sarah’s dreams turn to nightmares?"

Earlier this week, Corrie star Jack James Ryan, who plays bad boy Jacob Hay, celebrated his sibling Rebecca's, 30, new acting role as Lydia on the ITV soap.

Jack penned: "Still can’t believe this is happening but I’m beyond proud to finally announce my ridiculously talented sister @rebeccaryan___ is joining the cast of @coronationstreet.

"When people asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up I’d say 'an actor on TV like my big sister'. You’ve been my biggest inspiration and I’ll never be able to articulate just how proud I am to be your little bro.

"They say never work with family but on this occasion I’d like to strongly disagree. Can’t wait for Lydia to hit our screens in December so make sure to keep an eye out to see what she gets up to! Love you Bex."
