Wendi Peters has discussed the possibility of a Coronation Street return, revealing she’d like some ‘funny’ scenes between Cilla Battersby-Brown and Evelyn Plummer – and we’re so here for it.
The actress, who played Cilla on the ITV soap between 2003 and 2007, discussed what it would be like to reprise her iconic role all these years later.
‘I heard Chesney’s getting married, but I don’t think anybody’s told his mother,’ she joked, before opening up what she would be keen to see if Cilla – who was last seen in 2014 during a short return – did stage a cobbles comeback.
‘I think it would be funny if Cilla met Evelyn and Bernie. Maureen Lipman is a comic genius, and Jane Hazlegrove is a brilliant actress,’ said the soap star.
‘I can imagine them having some great comedy scenes round the wedding buffet, but who knows?
‘Cilla made a big impact and I’m glad she gets a mention now and again, but I’m happy where I am.’
Wendi is set to join the cast of Doctors this week, playing newcomer Dr Nina Bulsara.
The news of Wendi’s arrival to Letherbridge was announced on Morning Live, where she told presenters Gethin Jones and Sam Quek a little more about her new character.
‘I’m having a brilliant time,’ she said at the time.
‘Dr Nina comes from a very well bought up background, married to a consultant who passed away from a stroke, she is just set on entering Letherbridge with a mission, she knows what she wants and hopefully she’ll get it’
Consider us very excited.
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
