Coronation Street and Emmerdale cancelled for the rest of the week

It’s been confirmed Coronation Street and Emmerdale will not air for the rest of the week following the news the Queen has died.

Earlier today, schedules for BBC and ITV began to change as the channels started covering the news of the Queen’s ill health.

Episodes of Emmerdale and EastEnders were then pulled from tonight’s schedules following the news of the monarch’s death.

The Queen died peacefully at the age of 96 at Balmoral, ending a remarkable reign of more than 70 years.

The country will now go into a period of mourning, led by Charles – to be known as King Charles III following his automatic accession to the throne.

It has been seven decades since a monarch has died in the UK, meaning many of the traditional protocols now in motion will be seen for the first time by the majority of people in the hours, days and weeks to come.
