Fans rejoice over Evans voicing the titular character in the first teaser of Disney’s new animated movie ‘Lightyear’ as they think that Allen’s political views are ‘bad’ for kids.
AceShowbiz –Chris Evans has made his debut as Buzz Lightyear in the first teaser of Disney/Pixar’s new animated movie “Lightyear“. In the approximately one-and-a-half-minute video, the fictional astronaut, which the toy in the “Toy Story” movies is based on, gets ready to launch into space and start an adventure to “infinity.”
Evans’ line in the teaser is very short and only comes at the end of the video, but it has started a buzz on the Internet as many discussed why the role was recast with the “Captain America” actor instead of Tim Allen, who has voiced the toy in the “Toy Story” movies. They believe that the “Last Man Standing” star, who is a Republican, was replaced because of his political views.
“So glad Tim Allen isn’t voicing Buzz Lightyear. His political beliefs will negatively influence children who watch the film and he sounds like he’s 90-years-old anyways,” said one Twitter user. “Sorry, not sorry. Chris Evans is the perfect fit.”
“Tim Allen ain’t here cause Political views bad,” another agreed. Echoing the sentiment, a third user wrote, “Chris Evans voicing Buzz Lightyear instead of Tim Allen is an upgrade. Sorry, not sorry.”
Some others, however, justified the recast because they are two different characters. “Tim Allen is the TOY buzz lightyear and Chris Evans is voicing the man the toy is based off of…why is this becoming a political debate #Lightyear,” one of them argued.
Another added, “The Buzz Lightyear that Tim Allen played was a toy not the actual guy, that was the whole joke of the his character in Toy Story, Chris Evans is paying the actual Buzz Lightyear, so not the same character – not everything is political.”
Disney has not commented on fans’ speculation about the recast.
Evans himself was clearly excited about the teaser release. Taking to Instagram to share the video, he wrote, I’m covered in goosebumps. “And will be every time I watch this trailer. Or hear a Bowie song. Or have any thought whatsoever between now and July cause nothing has ever made me feel more joy and gratitude than knowing I’m a part of this and it’s basically always on my mind.”
The “Knives Out” star also posted the video on Twitter and captioned it, “To infinity and … Experience the origin story of a Space Ranger in Disney and Pixar’s #Lightyear, in theaters Summer 2022.”
“Lightyear”, directed by Angus MacLane, is slated for a June 17, 2022 launch in U.S. theaters.
