Cold Feet star James Nesbitt seemed to cause offence when he labelled Good Morning Britain as trash during the latest episode.

The popular Northern Irish actor appeared on the programme to discuss his role as Unicef's UK ambassador and the TV shows he loves watching during his spare time.

But when presenter Adil Ray quizzed him on the TV shows that he considers to be rubbish, James, 56, caused uproar in the studio when he called out GMB.

Adil asked: "So what trash TV shows do you like to watch?"

James replied: "I'm a big fan of Good Morning Britain."

Taken aback by his comments, the ITV studio erupted into loud roars which lead the star to confess that he was only "joking".

But broadcaster Adil was having none of it and said "that's enough" and pretended to end the interview there and then.

Adil added: " Well you're never coming back again."

However, James insisted he was joking and referred to the earlier interview that took place on the show with politician Savid Javid which was rather heated.

Elsewhere in the interview James spoke about his work with Unicef.

The star previously expressed his joys about working with the charitable organisation.

He expressed: "It allows me to use my job to do something that really makes a difference… My trips also remind me, time and time again, how similar children are all over the world.

"Whoever I meet and whatever difficulties they face the children are the same. They laugh at the same things – a funny face, a stupid noise – they cry when they fall over."

James will be joining comedian Eddie Izzard in their new Netflix's crime drama Stay Close.

The actor will be playing a detective in the thrilling adaptation of Harlan Coben's bestselling crime novels.

Earlier this year, James shocked fans when he appeared in an episode of police drama Line Of Duty.

The longtime actor played dodgy detective Marcus Thurwell who is a senior investigating officer that was briefly mentioned in series three.

However only the star's photo was shown in the programme.
