A Place in the Sun guest in tears as she views ‘lovely’ £28,000 fixer-upper

A Place in the Sun's Jonnie Irwin picked a £28,000 fixer-upper property in Bulgaria so "perfect" it made a guest well up with tears.

In Monday's episode (June 7) Sarah was searching for a three-bedroom house within her modest budget of £40,000 near the traditional town of Tryavna.

Jonnie's first offering was way off the mark and a disgruntled Sarah and her pal Suzie were clearly not happy and branded it a "box" which was lacking character.

His next property was a few miles outside Tryavna and had five bedrooms as well as outbuildings, heaps of quirkiness and character, and a large garden.

The cottage was on the market for £27,909 and Sarah was excited as soon as she stepped through the door.

Standing in one of the bedrooms, Jonnie asked: "Who is the practical one here? I have to point something out to you before you point it out."

The camera then zoomed in on an unsightly brown mark on the wall near the ceiling where damp and mould had stained the plaster.

Jonnie said: "The roof has been fixed, that being said, with this house you have to have a full survey. You have to."

He then asked: "Have you fallen in love with this?"

Suzie said: "Well when I see tears coming up in the eyes I know we are doing well."

Embarrassed, Sarah said: "Stop it, I'm going to start, stop it."

"Are you welling up?" asked Jonnie, "Why don't you go and have a look around the rest of the property, take a look at the bedrooms, and then have a look at the garden?"

Talking to the camera, Jonnie said: "There is a right property for everyone and I think Sarah is the right person for this."

Although Sarah appeared to have strong feelings for the cottage, in the end, she went for an option closer to Tryavna and needing a bit less TLC.

She was able to get her dream home for £32,700 and was absolutely thrilled.
