Tom Fletcher gutted to miss Strictly show and tour after contracting Covid-19

Tom Fletcher has revealed he's "so jealous" of his Strictly Come Dancing co-stars who get to dance on the BBC show next week.

It follows the McFly singer being forced to skip the next week of the hit dancing competition after him and his Strictly partner, Amy Dowden, tested positive for Covid.

It means the musician has also been forced to drop out of his band's current UK tour, called the Young Dumb Thrills tour.

The singer will now have to undergo a period of self-isolation before being able to return his Strictly duties – and the pair won't be able to rehearse for ten days.

Taking to Instagram, the star gave fans an update into how his isolation was going, and he told fans he was "gutted" to be missing out on his band's tour.

He said: "Thank you so much for all your messages. I'm fine, but it means obviously I'm isolating and can't finish the McFly tour.

"I'm so sorry, I'm so gutted about [it]. It hurts so much letting you guys down, you have no idea."

He explained that Tom Abisgold will step in to replace him in the upcoming McFly shows, and that he has been a McFly fan for years.

He went on to chat about how he'll be missing out on the next week of Strictly, and apologised for having to drop out for the time being.

He said: "This also means I have to have a week off from Strictly, so I won't be there for week two. I'm sorry to all of the Strictly team and to all of my fellow contestants and to my brilliant partner, Amy.

"Sending you loads of love, Amy. I will be watching on Saturday cheering you all on, guys. I can't wait to see your Week Two dances. I'm so jealous that I'm not there.

Wrapping up his video, he quipped: "I will be back for Week Three. Amy, I'm gonna dance my little Cuban heels off and hopefully get more than a four from Craig [Revel Horwood].

Last week, Tom and Amy performed a Cha-Cha routine to Earth Wind & Fire's 1978 hit, September, and received 21 points out of 40.

Announcing the news that Tom and Amy had tested positive for Covid, the BBC said in a statement: "Tom Fletcher and Amy Dowden have tested positive for Covid-19.

"The pair are now self-isolating separately following the latest government guidelines.

"While they will both miss Saturday’s live show, Strictly Come Dancing protocols mean that all being well, they will return the following week."

Strictly Come Dancing airs Saturdays at 7pm on BBC One.
