Some know her as one of the stars of the YouTube comedy series UNHhhh, others know her as the artist behind chart-topping albums Two Birds and One Stone. Trixie Mattel is now taking her comedy-music-drag act on the road, with a brand new live show, “Grown Up.”
What makes these upcoming performances different from other shows? Here’s what we know about this drag performer and her work outside of RuPaul’s Drag Race.
This drag performer won a season of ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race: All-Stars’
Drag fans first meet this celebrity of season 7 of RuPaul’s Drag Race but, oh honey, that was only the beginning of her career. Trixie Mattel went on to win RuPaul’s Drag Race: All-Stars and use her platform to release original music, star in The Trixie & Katya Show on Viceland, and premiere her documentary, Moving Parts.
Trixie Mattel even created her own makeup company, Trixie Cosmetics — a brand that brings fans quality cosmetics in toy-inspired packaging. In all her free time, Trixie Mattel performs in live shows across the globe.
Trixie Mattel previously performed live shows, featuring original songs, comedy, and even tap dancing
Why not see Trixie Mattel live and up close? This drag performer starred in her own live shows, complete with music from Two Birds, jokes about Drag Race, and sometimes even tap dancing. In the past, the drag performer even had Tammie Brown open for her.
“All these drag queens who are like, ‘I work so hard, I have a gig in two weeks.’ I’m like, ‘Literally go die. You have no idea,’” Mattel said during an interview with The Asbury Park Press. “Everybody’s been like, ‘At least you had a year off from touring.’ This has been the most intense year of my life, I mean work-wise. Crazy.”
Trixie Mattel is heading on the road with a new live show, entitled ‘Grown Up’
This drag performer kept herself busy creating new music, filming episodes of UNHhhh, premiering her documentary, and writing a book with the former RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant Katya Zamolodchikova. Now, Trixie Mattel is finally performing in a live show, “Grown Up,” across the country. The tour kicks off during February 2020.
“The songs I’m writing go with the jokes. I love sections of stand-up that ends with a bow on it, and that bow on it is a song,” Mattel said during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “My goal is to marry stand-up to the music.”
“I can’t make my shows a drag queen in a dress talking for an hour. It needs to be drag queen in 15 dresses talking, singing, playing a harp, doing a cartwheel… and there are videos,” Mattel continued. The interview states that Trixie Mattel is touring with a live band of eclectic musicians for the first time. “I want to do the most!”
Music by Trixie Mattel, including albums Two Birds and One Stone, is available on Spotify, Apple Music, and most major streaming platforms. To learn more about Trixie Mattel’s live tour, Grown Up, visit her website.
