Aside from fans, DMX left dozens of loved ones to mourn his sudden loss. The legendary rapper was engaged to his longtime love, Desiree Lindstrom. Lindstrom became X’s comfort at home, away from the pressures of fame and his troubling past. She spoke lovingly of X in her first on-camera interview since his death.

Lindstrom was by X’s side daily in a White Plains hospital as she hoped and prayed for a recovery after he suffered a heart attack and alleged overdose. “I wasn’t giving up – I didn’t care if I was looking like a walking zombie,” she told FOX5 New York. “I wasn’t going to give up on him – I had hope that he was going to get up.”
The two met 10 years ago at an Arizona nightclub. They had their first date at a local Buffalo Wild Wings where she says X’s playful spirit was the most attractive. He held her close at the end of the night and she did not want to let him go.

“We were friends first and then we were lovers,” Lindstrom gushed. She says grappling with his death is the most painful experience. “He was my best friend, he was everything I had, he was my world – I lived around him. So, it has been very, very, very hard.”
But their relationship was not without its ups and downs. X publicly battled addiction. But Lindstrom says he fought through it and had faith that he’d overcome his demons. With faith in him, the two started a family, and welcomed their son Exodus six years into their relationship.
Ahead of his death, Lindtsrom says X was making a turn for the better. He embraced family life, was making amends with those he’d hurt, and was excited about the future. Now, their son Exodus is what gives her the strength to keep going.
Desiree Lindstrom is close friends with DMX’s ex-wife, Tashera Simmons
Prior to Lindstrom, X was married to his childhood sweetheart. Their relationship was contentious at times due to X’s drug addiction. Simmons alleges verbal, mental, and emotional abuse as well as infidelity on X’s part. Despite it all, they remained close friends after their divorce, with Simmons as X’s champion.
Simmons gave a heartfelt eulogy at X’s funeral. She spoke of X introducing her to God and his faith never wavering. Before closing her nearly 30-minute speech, she took the time to shout out Lindstrom for being a positive force in X’s life.

“Real women do real things, I am a real woman and a woman of God, that [Lindstrom] woman is a woman of god,” Simmons said of Lindstrom. “And that’s why I love you.” Lindstrom and Simmons embraced on stage and the two held hands as Simmons finished her speech.
Lindstrom and Simmons were seen before X’s passing during a candlelight vigil. They leaned on each other for support and promised to raise their children together as siblings.
