Danniella Westbrook blames herself for being seriously ill with septicaemia

Danniella Westbrook has opened up about her health battle with septicaemia, explaining that she hadn't taken advice given to her by doctors.

Back in May, the former EastEnders actress was raced to hospital after she'd suffered from frightful blood poisoning which left her in a critical condition.

According to the soap star, it isn't the first time she'd contacted the bloodstream infection and confessed that she was knowingly vulnerable to it.

Understanding that she bares a higher risk than most – due to the number of times of going under-the-knife – Daniella was advised to take precautions but confirmed she'd failed to.

Medics warned the actress who was best known for her role as Sam Mitchell on Albert Square's famed programme that she needed to wear a mask to keep herself safe.

Speaking with The Sun at the Whsky Label launch party on Thursday, August 5, Danniella revealed she'd let herself down when it came to following instructions from experts.

Danniella told the publication: "Because of my operations I'm quite open to it.

"I don't always wear a mask and I should, so they're always telling me off!"

The TV star went on to add that she may have overdone it with her fitness regime too, confessing that she'd hit the gym far too early after her last operation.

She said: "I also went back to the gym too fast.

"Sweating and doing classes and stuff I shouldn't be doing… so now I've got a personal trainer."

Earlier this year Danniella left fans and loved ones seriously concerned and worried after she opened up about being bedridden with a mystery illness.

It was later confirmed by the BBC star's representatives that she'd suffered from a "sudden health shock".

The statement read: "Danniella suffered a sudden health shock.

"Thankfully the issue was caught early and dealt with by medical professionals. Danniella has been released from hospital and is home recovering with the support of close family.

"We are grateful that Danniella hasn’t suffered from any major risks.

"Danniella appreciates everyone’s immediate support and we will be sure to issue updates on her ongoing recovery accordingly."
