America's Got Talent star Skilyr Hicks has died aged 23.

The young singer-songwriters died on Monday after being found in the home of a friend, reported her mother Jodi to TMZ.

Jodi revealed she doesn't know the actual homeowner where her daughter's body was found in Liberty, South Carolina.

The exact cause of death is currently unknown but Jodi explained how Skilyr battled with mental health issues including depressing and substance abuse.

The young artist was described as being loved by her family and four siblings.

Jodi told TMZ: "She will live on through her music."

In 2013, Skilyr auditioned for America's Got Talent at just 14-year-old where she impressed judges, Mel B, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel and Howard Stern and made it through to the next round.

During her debut, she performed an original song which had a heartfelt back story landing her a segment on TV.

A few years before she auditioned the young star lost her father who apparently taught herself to play, write and sing.

However, after winning four yeses at her audition she was eliminated shortly after before making it to the live rounds of the show in New York City.

Following her reality debut, she ran into legal trouble and got arrested for underage drinking in 2018.

Skilyr also spent some time in jail after allegedly roughing up her family.
