Adele fans are claiming the star was responsible for the almighty social media crash which took place on Monday afternoon.
The 33-year-old hitmaker sent the online world into a complete frenzy as she updated her background on Instagram on Twitter – with her followers believing her long awaited album was about to drop.
After she'd finished editing both of her pages, eagle-eyed fans were quick to pick up on the subtle changes.
Observant enthusiasts noticed that the mum-of-one's background colour now matched with a series of '30' billboards that stormed across the world last week.
Within moments she began trending on Twitter, with much speculation and hype emerging that the singer was about to announce her major comeback after five years out of the spotlight.
As the Hello singer's name began to surge online the internet literally came to a standstill, with Facebook, Whats App and Instagram all becoming out of action for millions.
Some of Adele's followers didn't believe this to be entirely down to coincidence.
One person said: "The minute #Adele was ready to announce her new album Facebook company decides to broke."
Another comment read: "My Facebook went down while viewing the cover photo update [email protected]
"So I think it’s safe to say, Adele broke the internet #FacebookDown#Adele30#Adele."
A third chimed-in: "Has Adele broke the internet of something? #Facebookdown #WhatsApp #whatsappdown #instagramdown #Adele."
While a fourth shared a meme of the chart topper falling about laughing, adding the caption: "@Adele when she brought #Instagram #Facebook #Whatsapp down #Adele."
All three of Adele's previous studio albums have been named after age so the "30" title would certainly fit the bill.
In 2008, the Chasing Pavements hitmaker took the globe by storm as she unveiled her debut album 19 – this was followed by 21 in 2011 and 25 in 2015.
Given Adele's previous songwriting has stemmed around heartache and romance fails, fans are especially eager to see what she has in store this time round after her marriage breakdown to ex-husband Simon Konecki in 2019.
