Primark announces plans to trial click-and-collect service in huge change

Primark has revealed its plans to trial a click-and-collect service.

The new move will see more than two dozen stores in the northwest of England offer 2000 children's products in the trial click-and-collect services.

According to The Sun, 25 of Primark's shops will allow customers to pick up their online orders enabling them to have a larger variety to choose from.

Back in April, the company launched their website but customers were only able to browse through items.

In a statement, parent company AB Foods said: "Our average-size stores are only able to stock a limited range and for these customers the number of options available to them will broadly double, increasing even more for customers of our small stores.

"This trial will enable us to provide more fashion, licence and lifestyle products to more customers and more often."

"Towards the end of the year," the 25 Primark stores in the northwest that are included in the trials, will be announced.

The new service will include "a wide choice of products for kids, spanning everything from clothing and accessories, to decorative nursery products and toys".

Chief executive at Primark, Paul Marchant, said: "We’ve chosen to trial the new service in a region where we have a wide range of stores of different sizes and formats and we can’t wait to see the customer response.”

He also added that the trials were a "milestone" for Primark.

Sarah Riding, retail partner at the law firm Gowling WLG, said in a statement: "While any sort of retail expansion carries a level of risk at the moment, Primark's foray into this revenue stream is long overdue.

"However, given that their store-based footfall has defied expectations where driving high revenue is concerned, the captive audience on standby for this service seems to be better guaranteed for them than others."

She added: "It will therefore be interesting to see how wide a net Primark casts when introducing more variety for this service as the fortunes of the trial emerge."

Many customers will be glad to hear Primark's click-and-collect news, due to the change enabling people to select their items from home rather than search for them in physically in the store.
