Pigs in blanket cocktails and salmon martinis launch ahead of Christmas party season

Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year for all things food – and we can’t forget cocktails.

But for 2021, you can pop your eggnog, mulled wine and fancy fizz back in the cupboard as there are some new (and potentially questionable) Christmas drinks on the menu.

Mixology wizards at The Cocktail Society have created three ultimate festive flavour cocktails to enjoy in the holidays, each combining Christmas foods from pigs in blankets to savoury salmon.

Each drink has an alcoholic kick to help you through the quite frankly bizarre taste on your tongue. Curious? You can enter to win all three limited edition cocktails.

Here’s what we know about the unusual festive beverages…

The Salmon Starter Martini

Forget your prawn cocktail entree, Christmas starters now come in liquid form.

You might need to be quite merry before trying this sounding beverage. – but the creators insist they're quite pleasant.

The cocktail transforms the iconic smoked salmon starter into an alcohol drink by combining salmon-infused gin with pepper and chive flavours.

The team took Hendrick’s gin and infused it with salmon and pepper for 24 hours. They then placed the mix in the freezer to remove oils and fats, leaving a clean and flavourful infused gin.

The Pigs in Blankets Cocktail

Yep, you heard that right. Sausages and bacon…in a cocktail.

Dedicated to one of our favourite features of Christmas dinner, this meaty drink has been carefully crafted to taste like the real thing.

This cocktail is a twist on the classic Old Fashioned. It includes rich bourbon infused with bacon fat and cocktail sausages and a good dash of seasonal cranberry juice.

With sustainability in mind, the cranberries used to prepare the syrup can be reused as garnish.

It’s said to be a strange yet satisfying taste… but we'll let you be the judge.

Christmas Pudding Martini

This invention seems a bit more palatable and a fancy choice to drink alongside your umpteenth mince pie.

Imagine all of the best fruity, boozy flavours from a Christmas pudding in one sweet sip, and you’re just about there.

Did you know a traditional Christmas pudding has 12 different ingredients?

The mixologists tasted each one (an enviable job) to see how they’d infuse them for the very best taste.

The martini includes flavours of brandy, dark chocolate liqueur and a special Christmas syrup – delightful!
