New Book Claims Prince Harry's Spending Habits Contributed to His Feud With Prince William

Were Prince Harry’s spending habits partly to blame for his feud with Prince William? While the exact reason for the tension between the brothers hasn’t been revealed, there are plenty of theories about what went wrong. In a new book, royal experts claim that one reason they had a falling out was because Prince Harry was spending too much money.

Prince Harry admitted things weren’t good between them

In an interview for the 2019 documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, Prince Harry was asked about the feud rumors and he admitted that the gossip was true.

He didn’t pinpoint why they had a falling out but did share how“stuff happens” between siblings.

“Part of this role and part of this job and this family being under the pressure that it’s under… inevitably, you know, stuff happens,” he responded when asked about the rumors.

Prince Harry continued, “But, look, we’re brothers. We’llalways be brothers. We’re certainly on different paths at the moment but I willalways be there for him and, as I know, he will always be there for me.”

Part of the reason for their distance, Harry noted, was thatthey had become busy with their own families. “We don’t see each other as muchas we used to because we’re so busy, but I love him dearly. The majority ofstuff is created out of nothing,” he explained.

He added, “But as brothers, you have good days and you havebad days.”

Was Prince Harry’s spending getting out of hand?

Among the many theories about why there was tension between Prince Harry and Prince William, some royal experts believe that Prince Harry’s spending habits might have contributed to the situation.

In the book Royals At War, authors Dylan Howard and Andy Tillett write that Prince Harry ramped up his spending before he and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex welcomed baby Archie.

According to the authors (via Express), Prince Harry spent money to support their celebrity lifestyle, which was in contrast to the typical royal image. This reportedly didn’t sit well with Prince William who was upset that Harry and Meghan weren’t more modest about their wealth.

“Harry’s transformation is revealed as one of thefundamental factors behind the deep fissure that opened between him and hisbrother, Prince William,” the book maintains, noting how Prince Harry’sspending included the £2.3million Frogmore Cottage renovation, acupuncture andmassages, as well as Meghan’s maternity clothes.

The Sussexes’ expenses had a hefty price tag

Harry had reportedly transitioned to a more health-focused mindset before he married Meghan in 2018, with The Times reporting that Harry “was keen to try acupuncture as part of a recent health drive.”

In 2019, The Sun published an article that said their acupuncture sessions cost £6,200 over the months they lived together. Additional expenses included the babymoon that Prince Harry and Meghan took before Archie’s birth, as they vacationed at a luxury spa with a hotel room costing up to £10,000 a night. The Sun further noted that the additional cost of security as well as spa treatments bumped the cost to as much as £33,000 for their stay.

A June 2019 Love the Sales report claimed Meghan wore 77 outfits when she was on maternity leave, totaling £478,920, with designer brands including the Dior gown she wore to Morocco.
