DEAR DEIDRE: MY son has so much to offer but can’t get a girlfriend.
He’s kind, considerate and conscientious. He’s got a good job as an electrician, is in the local choir and is a scout leader.

He’s 20 and has told me he would love to meet someone but doesn’t know how.
I’m his 55-year-old dad and worried he’s going to end up like my sister, who is in her early 60s and has never had a relationship.
He spends lots of time on dating websites but hasn’t had one date.
A lot of people think he’s a loner, as he doesn’t have a circle of friends, but he craves company.
How can I help him?
DEIDRE SAYS: He is still young so don’t panic.
He is doing the right things being active in your local community – this is a great way to meet people and make friends.
You can encourage him to join groups and clubs when everything opens up again, ideally with people of similar age to him – I imagine most choristers are a lot older and there will be limited numbers of other adults at the scout club.
A slight change of focus might help – instead of fixating on meeting a girlfriend, which puts lots of pressure on the situation, he could focus on making friends.
Out of these solid relationships romance often blossoms.
