A mum’s decision to ban her son from playing video games rated for aged 18 resulted in her son refusing to speak to her for an entire year.
The woman took to social media to ask for opinions on whether she had been “too strict” on the boy after his shocking attempt at retaliation.
Posting on Twitter, she wrote: "My son is refusing to speak to me for the rest of the year as I won't let him play adult console games…
“He's 12 and he wants to play GTA and Call of Duty because all his friends are doing it.
“Am I being too strict here?"
But, in less than a day the tweet went viral and racked up thousands of likes, replies and retweets.
Many agreed with her that a 12-year-old should not be playing games aimed at adults.
But, others disagreed with her choice to ban him from them all together, reports the LiverpoolEcho.
One Twitter poster wrote: “Parenting is tough! My son is also 12. He knows what’s ok language but listens to a lot worse on line as we all do, yet it’s relevant or it’s amusing, or it’s ‘in context’.
“If he’s a good kid he’ll know the difference and you won’t have a problem. Trust your parenting!"
Another said: "No. I didn't let mine. They’re 15 and 16 & I *just* okay’d those games not long ago.
“I don’t think I’m an overly strict parent, but 15 also has movie & TV rules still.
“16 less so, but they have [different] maturity levels & 16 is good at choosing what’s appropriate for himself."
A third said: "Been through this already and very hard to stop them doing what their friends are all doing and talking about every day, they can become ostracised.
“My two are both in their mid 20’s now and on balance it was right to let them use the games, the bigger issue is time allocation!"
