Viewers will be treated to Michel Roux Jr’s presence this morning on Channel Four’s Sunday Brunch. Hosts Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer will be joined by the award-winning chef as well as other celebrity guests Joe Lycett, Isy Suttie, Mabel, Celia Imrie, Ian Burrell, Big Zuu, and Mateo Zielonka.
Michel Roux Jr is a familiar face within the British food scene, having won awards for his impeccable French-style cooking.
The Englishman has come a long way from his childhood home in Kent, training with baking and cooking greats in France before returning to the UK and working at London’s iconic Le Gavroche with his father.
Albert Roux opened the three-star Michelin restaurant in 1967.
He sadly died in January this year after a long illness.
However, his son has continued his legacy.
Michel is known to be one of Britain’s greatest chefs and has an estimated net worth of a whopping $85million, according to celebrity sites.
It’s a huge fortune that’s currently equivalent to £61million.
This is thanks to Le Gavroche, which Michel now owns, as well as his string of TV appearances and cookbooks.
Situated in Mayfair, Le Gavroche has a net worth of £2.9million, according to Company Check.
It charges an impressive £212 for its fixed price menu and £60 for a starter.
Le Gavroche was the first UK restaurant to be awarded one, two, and three Michelin stars.
Michel also owns a second restaurant, called Roux, located near St James’ Park in central London.
Speaking about making his first million, as well as his general success, Michel told the Financial Times in 2008: “What is £1million worth in terms of work? I might be worth that much or more, but I’m still the same person.
“I never take money for granted – the amount coming in was never a marker. That’s not why I go to work in the morning. I get satisfaction doing what I do.”
Michel was born in Kent and attended the private Emanuel School in Battersea, south London.
After leaving school at 16, he completed a cooking apprenticeship in Paris before working as a commis de cuisine at Le Gavroche with his father and uncle.
He later returned to France to train under notorious French chef Alain Chapel in his hotel and restaurant near Lyon.
Michel took over Le Gavroche in 1993 when his father retired.
The 61-year-old has appeared on many cooking TV shows, including as a judge on Masterchef: The Professionals, as a co-presenter on BBC Two’s Food and Drink alongside Kate Goodman, and as a mentor on the series The Chef’s Protégé.
In 2016, he stepped in as presenter on BBC’s Saturday Kitchen after James Martin left the show, having been its host for 10 years.
Michel is married to Giselle, who is originally from France and has worked for the restaurant business for numerous years.
The couple live in London and have a daughter, Emily, who is also a chef.
