Meghan Markle, 40, has always been passionate about following a healthy lifestyle – be it before or after she joined the Royal Family. As her interview with Ellen Degeneres airs soon, the Duchess of Sussex previously spoke about how she stays in shape, keeps her skin glowing, and hair thick and shiny.
Before marrying Prince Harry, 37, Meghan’s day job was an actress and during her own time, she worked on a blog called The Tig.
The Tig was described as “a hub for the discerning palate – those with a hunger for food, travel fashion and beauty” and it gave a real insight into what Meghan liked.
On it, she shared recipes, stories, advice and discussed topics close to her heart.
Then in 2015, Meghan sat down with The Chalkboard Magazine and shared a few of her personal health tips.
In a bid to keep in tip top shape, both inside and out, Meghan said she took a combination of daily supplements.
“Magnesium, B-12 drops, multivitamin and Cortisol Manager before bed,” she revealed. “Sometimes ashwaganda makes it into the mix too.”
Ashwaganda is an ancient herb, which has been proven to calm the mind and boost your immune system, as well as hydrating the skin.
In terms of what an average day of meals looks like for Meghan, she said she stars off the day with a “Clean Cleanse vanilla shake with blueberries or an Acai bowl with fresh berries, Manuka honey and bee pollen,” the latter, said was her “absolute favourite”.
At least once a week she used to cook “roasted cauliflower with chickpeas and hot curry powder”.
“It finds its way into my salads, or as a side dish that I constantly nibble,” she added.
And what about when she’s in need of something to curb hunger pangs when she’s out and about?
“A green juice. That’s fast. And it’s food,” she remarked. “It’s been many moons since I went through a drive thru.”
One thing which could contribute to Meghan’s healthy, clear skin is how much water she drinks.
“Pellegrino with lime,” is on-tap, “or a big Mason jar of filtered water that I refill throughout the day,” she said.
As for how she likes to “sweat out all the toxins”, once a week, for her health, Meghan “sits in an infrared sauna”.
The supposed benefits of an infrared sauna include better sleep, weight loss, relief from sore muscles, improved circulation, and clear and tighter skin.
In terms of when Meghan sits in the sauna, this might take place after she’s completed her favourite workout which is “a six-mile run with [her] friend Heather”.
Meghan also revealed what her health passion is: “I have been a longtime believer in acupuncture and cupping.
“I used to have debilitating migraines (hospitalised for them), and acupuncture and Eastern medicine absolute changed my life.
“Migraine-free living is a game changer.”
She also spoke out about an “absurd” health trend to skip: “That baby food diet – oh my goodness, don’t even get me started.”
