DEAR DEIDRE: AT the age of 20 I want to finally come out and tell people I am gay but I’m scared, as my family are homophobic.
I have known for a long time that I am attracted to guys, not girls.
It was obvious to me at school when my mates were getting girlfriends and talking of their romances and I was looking at pictures of guys.
People at work keep telling me I’ll find a girlfriend soon. Little do they know I often have gay sex.
I hate living a lie but if I tell everyone I am gay they might be very judgmental, or even stop talking to me.
DEIDRE SAYS: Some will be accepting, and some will judge because of their own prejudice. You don’t have to tell everyone all at once.
You can find understanding support on how to handle coming out through Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (fflag.org.uk, 0845 652 0311).
If you are having sex with different partners please always use protection.
