Here’s how to celebrate 303 Day 2022, Denver’s 13-year-old and unofficial celebrations of all things Mile-High-City

For the last 13 years, a growing number of Denverites have celebrated 303 Day — an unofficial holiday for all-things-Mile-High-City — with parties, deals and drinks, and one-off shows.

As some may remember, the first 303 Day (named after Denver’s original 303 area code) took place in 2009, following a conversation between Channel 93.3 deejay Jeb Freedman — a.k.a. Nerf — and members of the Colorado band 3OH!3, The Denver Post has reported.

This year’s events, scheduled for (you guessed it) Thursday, March 3, look newly robust as compared to last year thanks to the lifting of mask mandates, warming weather and an increasing return to public cultural life. However, they’re still toned down from pre-pandemic versions, with fewer public events replaced by more food and drink specials.

While there’s no comprehensive lineup of 303 Day activities and deals, here are a few we can recommend.

  • RiNo’s Number Thirty-Eight will hold its 303 Day party, the city’s best-looking one, from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on March 3 with a stellar local-music lineup led by rising R&B/pop hurricane N3PTUNE, as well as SF1 and MLady. It’s sponsored by Indie 102.3 and 303 Magazine, both among the first, biggest supporters of the unofficial holiday. Free.
  • Parker’s Wild Goose Saloon will salute 303 Day with a concert from Crooked Air, from about 7-10 p.m., and locally-made beer and spirits. Free admission.
  • 303 Day Staycation at The Maven, located at Dairy Block downtown, is offering 30% off a three-night stay. “Enjoy an urban getaway and the chance to enjoy all of the amazing restaurants, shops and bars at LoDo’s Dairy Block micro-district,” organizers wrote.
  • Milkbox Ice Creamery at Denver Union Station is serving up a 303 Sundae — a single scoop (flavor of the guest’s choosing) with chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, whipped cream and sprinkles — for $3.03. Light ‘n healthy, right?
  • Floyd’s 99 Barbershop is offering its classic shampoo-and-conditioner service plus a head massage for $3.03 (normally $6). The offer is valid at participating Denver locations; check online for more.
  • Tamayo’s special “Juan Denver” 303 Day margarita (get it?) is made with suerte blanco tequila, cantaloupe-basil shrub, house-made sour and peach purée. $13.
  • Also from chef Richard Sandoval: His Toro Denver will feature two spirits from local makers/owners. Toro’s 303 Day margarita is made with Proximus tequila and Leopold Brothers Orange Liqueur, as well as lime juice and agave. $15.
  • Pigtrain Coffee Co. at Denver Union Station is charging only $3.03 for its 303 Latte.
  • Kachina Cantina at Dairy Block has a 303 Day special cocktail, The Local, for $12. If that seems a bit steep and not like a deal at all, consider its ingredients: Family Jones Vodka, Avery Brewing Co. IPA and grapefruit juice.
  • Natural Grocers will give away limited-edition and reusable Colorado bags and a sticker, with each location handing out a $100 gift card to a random shopper. Through March 26, the regional chain is also offering a sale on a variety of Colorado products.
  • The hamburger sorcerers at The Cherry Cricket are working their dark magic with a 303 Green Chile Relleno Burger, a half-pound cricket burger with white cheddar, house-made chile relleno and chef Ronaldo’s award-winning Denver-style pork green chile on a brioche bun. $14.50 at both locations, Ballpark and Cherry Creek.
  • The Crack Shack, at Greenwood Village’s Grange Hall, will offer localized Grange fries with Pueblo chile cheese wiz, scallions, bacon and more during its 3-6 p.m. happy hour. $5.
  • All Tap & Burger locations, including Belleview, Highlands, Sloan’s Lake and Westminster, will celebrate with a $3.03 glass of Station 26 lager.
