Prince George begged his dad to take him to Wembley and insisted on dressing like him, a royal source exclusively tells OK!.
The young royal – who has previously attended Aston Villa games with football fan William – enjoyed watching England take on Germany at this year's Euros while his sister Princess Charlotte, six, and brother Prince Louis, three, stayed at home.
Kate and William were seen out of their feet cheering for the boys but it was George who stole the limelight as he dressed in a suit matching his father's.
The young prince looked adorable as he swapped his usual shorts for trousers, which traditionally, royal boys don't start wearing until they are around eight years old.
Now, royal expert Duncan Larcombe says a friend of William's divulged the truth behind George's mini-me outfit.
“Prince William is George’s absolute hero,” Duncan tells OK!. “He thinks his dad’s the most perfect person on the planet.
“William would never have normally taken him to the football because it was an official outing in his role as president of the FA, but George absolutely begged to be allowed to come along.
“Kate and William are at pains to never expose the children unnecessarily to the cameras but he twisted their arm eventually.
“That’s why Kate came, so that when William had to meet all the dignitaries, George could stay with her.
“George idolises his dad. That’s why we saw him looking so smart in his suit – he really wanted to dress like William.
“He’s becoming a pretty big character and has both of his parents eating out of the palm of his hand.”
George was seen clapping as he cheered on the squad. The Cambridges were also joined by the likes of Ed Sheeran and David Beckham in the stand's at London's Wembley Stadium.
Former footballer David, 46, who watched the game with 18-year-old son Romeo, was spotted chatting to the couple and sweetly interacting with George.
Following the game, Kate and William took to their Twitter account to praise England's "incredible performance".
