It’s fair to say that Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker aren’t shy in sharing with the world just how much they fancy each other.
From spicy pics on the gram to intense PDAs on the red carpet, they’re having fun – and lots of it.
And in the newest episode of The Kardashians, Kourtney shared some spicy details about their sex life.
When she nipped off camera to go and have a quickie with Travis, sister Khloe lovingly timed their rendezvous.
When Kourtney reappeared 15 minutes later, she claimed it was a ‘record’ for the shortest amount of time she and Travis have had sex.
With the oldest Kardashian sister adding that ‘it’s usually, like, hours.’
Yep, while the average time for a sex session is apparently around the 13 minute mark, Karvis can go on, and on, and on.
But is having sex for hours actually good for you?
Metro enlisted the help of GP Charlotte Cremers at Peaches and Screams to satisfy our curiosity.
Charlotte says: ‘Having sex for hours can be an amazing experience, filled with pleasure and satisfaction.
‘However, it’s important to understand the impact it can have on your body and overall well-being.’
It turns out that engaging in sex for multiple hours without proper precautions can actually lead to some issues.
‘Exhaustion is a significant concern, as prolonged activity can drain energy levels and cause light-headedness or even fainting due to insufficient oxygen intake.
‘Inadequate lubrication may result in painful tearing and microtears, increasing the risk of urinary tract infections (UTIs), yeast infections, and potential transmission of sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
A long sesh between the sheets can also have some specific effects on the female body.
‘Women may experience soreness after engaging in extended intercourse,
particularly with vigorous activities such as deep thrusting or multiple
orgasms,’ says Charlotte.
‘It’s important for women to be aware that natural lubrication diminishes with prolonged use, which can result in tearing and increased vulnerability to infection.
‘Using water-based lubricants can help mitigate these risks and enhance comfort.’
Hours of sexual intercourse can also impact men’s bodies too.
‘For men, longer sexual encounters can bring increased pleasure and satisfaction.
‘Extended arousal time and improved ejaculatory control contribute to heightened enjoyment. However, it’s crucial to note that prolonged stimulation without sufficient lubrication can lead to discomfort, irritation, and even potential injury.
‘Proper lubrication is essential to prevent any adverse effects.’
So, is there a cut-off point?
‘While there is no definitive answer to the ideal duration for sexual enjoyment, it is generally advised not to exceed 30 minutes of vigorous activity to prevent undue stress on the body and minimize the risk of injury or exhaustion,’ says Charlotte.
‘Safety should always be a priority, and taking breaks throughout the session, as needed, is essential to ensure a mutually satisfying and safe experience.’
On the other hand, some good old stamina and sex can have a very positive impact on your mental health according to Charlotte.
She says: ‘Regular sexual activity, including longer-lasting encounters, can have
positive effects on mental health.
‘Improved sleep quality, better cardiovascular function, enhanced moods, and greater overall life satisfaction are some of the reported benefits.
‘Additionally, the trust required during extended intimate activities may foster emotional closeness and strengthen the bond between partners.’
