February 12 2021 marks the beginning of another Chinese New Year – this time it is the Year of the Ox. So, Happy Chinese New Year!

Seeing in the Chinese New Year is always a memorable occasion, with the turn of the calendar sparking wild and colourful celebrations.

This year will no doubt be a bit different due to the coronavirus pandemic, which means large gatherings are being stopped from happening in many countries. But that doesn't mean it can't be celebrated!

But have you ever wondered what zodiac animal you are and what it might mean?

How does the zodiac calendar work?

The Chinese animal zodiac is organised into a repeating cycle of 12 years & 12 animals. Every time the new year changes, the animal will also change.

The animals are also aligned to matching "elements", for example, the tiger is paired with the wood element, while the year of the snake is paired with the fire element.

The date in which Chinese New Year is not set in stone, it is actually moveable and dictated by the lunar cycle. Though the celebrations fell on January 25 last year, in 2021 the occasion, also known as the Lunar New Year will take place over two weeks later than last year's date and begin on February 12.

The ox is the zodiac animal for 2021.
